Book Review: “Thomas Jefferson: The Art Of Power” By Jon Meacham (2012, 800 Pages)
A great character, a disappointing book.
I am back to reading books after reading my students’ essays during the last four months.
Jon Meacham is an American journalist and editor. His book is the latest major biography of one of America’s most important statesmen about whom Woodrow Wilson said, “Jefferson’s principles are sources of light because they are not made up of pure reason, but spring out of aspiration, impulse, vision, sympathy. They burn with the fervor of the heart.”
Meacham’s book is incredibly informative, and gives a great account of the life and times of Jefferson.
However, it is biased, repetitive and written in a very boring style.
RATING: D.
