Book Review: “A Lucky Life Interrupted: A Memoir Of Hope” By Tom Brokaw (2015, 242 Pages)
A touching and engaging memoir.
Tom Brokaw is an American television journalist and author, best known as the anchor and managing editor of “NBC Nightly News” from 1982 to 2004. He is the only person to host all three major NBC News programs: “The Today Show”, “NBC Nightly News”, and “Meet the Press.”
In “A Lucky Life Interrupted: A Memoir Of Hope,” he relates his fight with multiple myeloma, an incurable blood cancer that weakens the bones and often leads to spinal fractures.
Tom Brokaw tells his story with honesty, sensitivity, and journalistic insight. However, I didn’t find it necessary to include highlights of his television career into the story of his cancer struggle.
Still, “A Lucky Life Interrupted” is touching and engaging, all the more for me who has gone through a spinal fusion bone-graft surgery and knows a bit or two about back pain and medical journeys – so my review of this book might be even more biased than usual.
RATING: C.
